My Journey From Active Addiction to Recovery Part 1...

Updated: Dec 20, 2021

My name is Mitchell and I am one of the co founders of Wellvale Recovery Centre, which is based on the north coast of KwaZulu-Natal.

The story might be happy now, but it wasn't always like this I can assure you. You see, I am an addict and an alcoholic in recovery but before I got into recovery I was an absolute terror in the lives of my family, my friends and just a general menace to society.

For a very long time I resisted treatment because I honestly did not believe that I was the problem or that I had a problem. I believed to my very core that everyone else was the problem and I was simply the victim in my own life. I blamed my parents, my schooling, difficulties I experienced growing up, the list can go on and on but basically in a nutshell, I WAS NOT THE PROBLEM, was how I thought and what I believed. This is a common theme in the lives of just about every addict and it is an idea or belief that needs to be shattered.

Keep an eye out over the next few days, I will dive a little deeper into my own life story and expose the nitty gritty and hopefully one person out there might find something out of my experience that can help them avoid as much pain as I had to endure in order to get better...

See you soon ;)
